The legislation says months. The calculator varies the planning-day comparison with the calendar rather than silently turning every year into 365 days.

Condition 8558 uses one short rule with real-world complexity.

“The holder must not stay in Australia for more than 12 months in any period of 18 months.”

The current regulation establishes the limit but does not publish an 8558-specific day-by-day calculation method. This calculator therefore presents a planning estimate, discloses its assumptions and escalates close cases.
